On May 24th, the association hosted the 5th Bridgetown training day for athletes 17yrs and below.
There were 37 students from all clubs along with 12 black belts attending to help coach. Guest coach Brett Huntly from the SHOTOKAN Margaret River Dojo conducted the kumite section and Steve Casserly from Mandurah conducted the kata section.
Having so many black belts meant every coach had only 2 or 3 students to coach…great opportunities for the athletes.
In the afternoon, a kata tournament was conducted with everyone participating. Mandurah did very well with all our athletes winning medals: Sharntie Whicker, Dayna Draper, Ashlee Weston, Taj Gilbert and Jaylah Stark. Congratulations to you all…you do the dojo proud.
Parents, athletes and coaches visited Sensei Scotts home for afternoon tea on saturday and then enjoyed a great bbq at the caravan park that evening. The kids playing flashlight in the park…and disguising tomatoe sauce inside the lamingtons was a nice touch.
Its a great weekend. I hope more of us can make the weekend next year.
